Well, it wasn’t Yardfest but Meccafest, organized by Howard University alumni — after it was announced there would be no live music on the Yard — tried. Despite it being “off the beaten path,” taking place in the Southeast Anacostia neighborhood, those students and alumni who did make it to the former St. Elizabeths Hospital did eventually turn up…even if it was well past the 6 p.m. closing time. (Think 9 p.m.!)
After all of the local acts took the stage, the afternoon included high-energy performances from Teyana Taylor and Jeremih. It also featured unannounced guests such as Wale, Pusha T, Snootie Wild and Yo Gotti — who seemingly replaced Future and Elle Varner, who were no shows as headlining acts.

Not to be outdone newcomers, Rae Sremmurd proved why they belonged in the line up performing their latest hit “No Type” and “No Flex Zone” a few times during their sets. The crowd got so hype during their set that it pushed one of the guys (we don’t know their names and you don’t either!) off the stage. The poor stage manager had to yell at everyone to leave the stage after that.
Festival goers not only enjoyed performances but food trucks, photo booths, and various apparel vendors.
